Let’s say Hi! my long-time pal and collaborator, former Stereophile impresario, John Marks! It’s come to my attention that many of my auto-media competitors are doing paid-ticket contests as an additional source of income. I’m either too ethical, too stupid, or both to get involved in that, so I’ve leaned on John Marks to come up with a free giveaway. Enjoy! — jb
“New Lamps for Old” is from the Middle-Eastern folk tale Aladdin. Also known as Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. The wicked Sorcerer tricks Aladdin’s wife into handing over the magic lamp by impersonating a street peddler hawking “New Lamps for Old.” “New Lamps for Old” is also a very fine track from Procol Harum’s 1974 album Exotic Birds and Fruit.
So, here’s the deal. I will go the evil Sorcerer one better. Some randomly-chosen Avoidable Contact subscriber will get a shiny new pair of handsome loudspeakers, but without having to trade in his old pair! How do you like them apples?
To get the Soup-to-Nuts lowdown on Vera-Fi Audio’s “Vanguard Scout” shoebox-sized monitor loudspeakers, please read my review article on Michael Fremer’s blog Tracking Angle.
Furthermore, I did ask Vera-Fi to thank Jack “For the Use of the Hall” by gifting to him the review pair that I had borrowed. Therefore, I ask Jack to add a few words with his impressions.
(Jack says: I’ll have those on the Sunday thread.)

Speaker development has moved quickly to satisfy objectivists like myself thanks to utilization of Klippel NFS. It’s gotta measure as flat as possible (Harman curve), or I’m not interested. What’s nice about manufacturers taking measurements seriously is you don’t need to spend 5 figures plus to have a great listening experience.
