A few years ago I got a NY strip medium rare and it was just a little too much. I think it may have been closer to rare than mid-rare. May have to give it another try.
Medium rare is your best shot at getting the steak you want. They might hit it on the money, but if they overdo it, you're at least getting something edible, not a shoe.
The orange roughy on this supper club's menu caught my eye. I might have to order that and a steak.
Too bad supper clubs in Montreal are something quite different. I believe combining food and entertainment does justice to neither. Wisconsin is too far from VT to drive to for dinner.
The other day I was explaining to a young professional musician about the Top Hat supper club, across the river in Windsor, Ontario. I guess it was Detroit's version of the Copa in NYC, with national name acts. He's 24 but he's been playing in bars and clubs since he was 14 and had no idea what I was talking about.
The hottest spot north of..Port Clinton! (Ohio! Straight across the lake! Erie, that is!) 😂😂
I recommend for anyone’s dining pleasure re: supper club fare: the Whitehouse Inn in Whitehouse, OH. I don’t recall what the biggest prime rib cut is, but it’s easily enough to feed two people, and the home fries are out of this world! The ambiance is sort of supper club meets all of the Presidents—pictures on one wall, and some of the names of the dishes pay punny homages to them! If beef isn’t what you’re after, they have Lake Erie perch and a couple other seafood dishes, maybe even lobster tails and oysters at market price.
As far as Grok knows, the only kosher supper club in North America is in Montreal. While searching on the topic, I found out that the private Detroit Athletic Club has added a kosher kitchen and chef. My guess is that has something to do with Gary Torgow, who runs Huntington Bank and the Sterling Group which is #3 in commercial property in Detroit, after the Illich and Gilbert organizations.
I just finished a nice slab of walleye tonight at JB Hooks at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Fantastic restaurant - hard to go wrong with many items there. I'm sure Tom would approve. I decided to stray from my usual filet when I visit.
Now you’ve mentioned cheese curds, I’m jonesing for some Mars Cheese Castle curds, venison blend summer sausage, cheese bread, and a Kringle for dessert - all washed down with a couple Sprecher Root Beers.
Bacon-wrapped petite filet (mushrooms on the side, please), a slice of lasagna or veal parmigiana, and extra heaping helpings of some form of potatoes (twice-baked and garlic mashed), along with a Caesar salad! Oh sure, nobody gets outta the world alive, so throw a side serving of fettuccine alfredo in there too! I’ll bring a tiny cooler to take whatever chocolate mocha tiramisu concoction they have with me!
Of course I wouldn’t want to be driving, because I’d wash that down with a few Grey Goose or Tito’s shots! (Although, I’ve had Aviation gin on the rocks, and that’s pretty good too!)
There are two types of people in the world: those who eat to live, and those who live to eat! I fall into the latter category! 😁
They had a huge fire there about 4-5 years ago. I remember because I saw the news like 2 days after I'd driven past it; a friend in Carpentersville posted it on his FB. All fixed/repaired/rebuilt when I went by on Tuesday though. It's where I saw the '68 Caddy.
odd that canadian walleye is on there but ive never seen it on a menu here
anyway this is a great opportunity for everyone to argue over the ideal way to order a steak and why its medium rare
As long as you don't order it well done we can be friends, ha ha.
id sooner be lit on fire than accused of ordering a steak well done

You can still fly in a Ford TriMotor in Port Clinton. http://libertyaviationmuseum.org/collection/aircraft.html
Yes you can!
And if you want some of the best perch on Lake Erie, Jolly Roger in Port Clinton has you covered! (Not sure if they’re kosher, however.)

i didnt either
i think its gone now as that address (if ive got it right) is home to a popeyes and before that it was a mcdonalds
There was also the Elmwood in Windsor. Today, when name acts play Windsor it's usually at the Ceasar's casino.
If filet , sauce or bacon wrap, otherwise ribeye, and rare in either case.
I always order my steak done well which of course is medium rare.
The dash on the Buick is so well detailed I almost expect the glovebox to open. Nice find.

Depends on the cut.
A filet, rare/med rare.
Something super fatty like a ribeye? Now we're talking medium. Gotta let the fat render some.
One of the things I miss about Wisconsin is the supper clubs!
I miss the fish fry
Yeah I absolutely need to check this out!
We lived in Wausau for a couple of years. I really miss the supper clubs and fried walleye on Fridays.

So these sorts of places kinda never went away in WI?
Is it a cultural thing, like cheese curds? 😋😋 Or just a point of pride in the state?
Rest assured, whatever the reason, I certainly approve! (I just ate, but I’m ravenously hungry again! 😂😂)

I wonder if they’d a-la carte menu items?

The '60 Thunderbird brochure is a great find. I'm still hung up on the white over red convertible from the original Parent Trap movie. Someday!
I was in Beloit on business like 15 years ago (the Taylor plant in Rockton) and had a lovely dinner at The 615 Club.

Tom you drove by a supper club where a patron dove a 68 SDV and did not stop to try the food.!!!!
No, I saw it at the Taylor factory. Will have to look up 615 Club next time I'm up there.
The interior of the Buick is wonderful. Amazing detail.
