Wow. Thanks for this.

Lot of value there for a bespoke Swiss timepiece.

these are actually quite good looking. the tide bezel on the water is so absurdly pretentious that i kind of love it. ill be giving them an honest look.

Nice. Thanks for the well written detailed review.

I kind of like the Type 10 Officer version. But $5k USD, nope. I’m way too cheap and VERY hard on watches.

"The name Sébastien Chaulmontet may not ring any bells"

that was the guy from marty supreme right

"he had this idea of creating “Imaginary Vintage” watches that aren’t simple reissues of old designs, instead something that could have been purpose-made in the 40s or 50s"

colour me intrigued

"Until José Perez (of Perezcope fame)"

somebody else who follows him lol. i liked his continued shitting on panerai and their fake history

"a dial maker in Neuchâtel who gold-plates the polished brass base, then applies one coat of blue, then diamond cuts the subdial edges, gold plates it AGAIN so the angles are shiny, then applies coats of clear lacquer that create depth"

sounds like a very time consuming and expensive process

"which feels like you’re breaking a hamster’s ribs every time you start it"

lmao

the lume on that watch is absolutely absurd. thing is a damn flashlight

He’s the Nerdrotic of the watch world.

Yeah. Now I have to go find a hamster for context.

Poor devil.

Ugh... this is like catnip for me. (looks over at his heap of Casios and Seikos with a bit of disgust)

Too much for a modified 7750 in my mind.

Thanks, however. Well done.

Everything is limited to 99 pieces but seems to be available. I wonder if Switzerland is such a magical place you design your own watch and everything is available nearby to make it. For 99 pieces it seems like it couldn’t be any other way.

My latest buy is a Watchdives Pioneer, which is a clone of a Tudor Ranger. It has a Seiko high-beat movement, so it sweeps more smoothly but the battery only lasts two years. Costs $107 vs $3900 for the real thing. Curved sapphire lens, nice. Mineral glass was still an option, so don't drop it. It nicely compliments my Cronos Explorer with the PT5000 movement, which I bought for $180 but has since gone up to $210. The Watchdives Ranger is a bit lighter than the Cronos Explorer, maybe because of that quartz movement. This is the most interest I can muster in Swiss watches. Some of the Hamilton models are appealing, but I never want to spend that much money, and I have read horror stories of them getting water damaged. No thanks on Moonwatches, Landwellers, Bretlings, um.. this thing. My don't have anything nice to say fuse just tripped.

The Pioneer is QUITE nice.

I did the sort-of stingray texture on the white and black ones.

You never stop learning - even as a Swiss in this regard! Fascinating story, thanks for sharing.

I can respect that after all these years in the business he didn’t turn jaded, he’s enthusiastic, he was showing me a concept watch that since has been released and he’s full of ideas for future Albishorn pieces.
