My local Honda dealer may be incompetent with simple tasks, but at least they are willing to overcharge!

Sounds like my trips to the Honda dealer as well for my wife's Pilot.

You got off lucky. My brother had his Camry worked on at the Honda dealer here in town. There was a perfectly good reason for this bit of nonsense btw. The Honda dealer is about a quarter mile closer to his house than the Toyota dealer so my sister-in-law thought it was a no-brainer. She was correct, just not in the way she thought.

Their diagnosis was additional parts that should have been replaced originally when the labor was already included. I told the sister-in-law to take the car to a local independent shop that had always treated me right. Without charge, they diagnosed a minor axle shaft seal leak which I fixed and a bad rack and pinion that the dealer had just replaced. Back to Honda it goes for the warranty work they tried to avoid. Whereupon the car promptly gets stolen because the dealer left the keys in it.

Naturally, the dealer accepted no responsibility but enough sense finally prevailed that between insurance and the dealer principal ponying up some cash, they came out ok even if they no longer had a paid off car that was destined to run forever. The car was recovered following a brief police chase but it was not worth fixing at that point. They could give Hondas away at that place and I'd travel halfway cross country not to do business with them.

How did I ever miss this ? .

I HATE $TEALERS ! .

I worked in them and fought constantly with those who were crooked .

OEM's spend a lot of time and $ pitching "factory trained Mechanics who use the RIGHT parts !" then it turns out it's almost always BULLSHIT because they make _zero_ effort to ensure the $tealers follow their own rules and don't charge for works not done, on and on ad nauseam .

Sigh .

How long did you keep this car Jack ? .

Did the tin worm do it in or what ? .

I can't imagine more than 40,000 miles with out a tranny oil change, drain the torque converter and change the filter too if it's a slush box .
