This Week's Klockau Lust Object: '84 Park Avenue
I miss big GM cars. I’m probably driving one of the last, my ‘19 XTS Luxury, though it would kind of look like a Chevette parked next to today’s featured car: a majestic triple blue ‘84 Electra Park Avenue, which was listed on Bring a Trailer last week and sold for $16,750.
Not bad for what you get, in my humble opinion. Style, room, a V8, electroluminescent opera lamps, what’s not to like?
I especially love the “turbine” alloy wheels, well known thanks to contemporary Electra Estate Wagons—famously featured in the ‘80s movie, Adventures in Babysitting.
But for whatever reason, they were seldom seen on the Electra and Park Avenue coupes and sedans. A shame. They rock!
Per the ad, “The five-digit odometer shows 11k miles, approximately 4,500 of which were added during the seller’s grandfather’s ownership and about 30 have been added under current ownership.”
Now my cynical self could start talking about modern men and women not understanding five-digit odometers, but from the condition, I believe it’s likely it is genuine in this case.
1984 was the last year for the big RWD Electras. No one I knew had one back then, but I do recall that there was a house a block from my grandparents’ house that had TWO of these. Identical sedans, white, white top, wire wheel discs.
The garage door was usually open, and both were just sitting stately in there, ready for a trip to the Arsenal Golf Club or maybe Bud’s Skyline Inn—a beloved and now gone supper club right next to Quad City Airport.
Anyway, I spent a lot of time drooling over this. If I hadn’t already had my Town Car, I would have been seriously tempted.
Oh and GM? Something even 25% close to this classy motor vehicle would sell WAY better than Cadillac EV Lardiqs, Pathetiqs, and Hummer FJ Cruisers. Thank you for your consideration.
