I think one important difference between today’s “conservatives” and “liberals” is the stories and fantasies we tell ourselves. I’m using those phrases deliberately, rather than “right-wing” and “left-wing” or “corporatist” and “populist”, because in this case I think the old distinctions apply a bit.
