Spotter's Guide To The August 2017 Road And Track
I've been somewhat absent from the print version of Road&Track, although you can still usually find me contributing twice a week to the website.
This month, however, I had one of my Web articles revamped and reworked for print use...
On page 98, you can read all about the new instructor certification movement. Led by Ross Bentley and the Motorsport Safety Foundation, this six-tier certification process will allow you to immediately assess the capabilities and experience of your trackday instructor. At this point, I hope you will forgive me if I brag a little bit. (Yeah, yeah, I know --- it's not that unusual, is it?) Much of this instructor-certification momentum is directly due to my 2014 article for R&T. A lot of people read that, a lot of people started talking about, and some people decided to do something about it.
I would like to think that the publication of that piece started a process that will eventually save the lives of trackday drivers and instructors. Please participate if you can, either by obtaining the certification for yourself or by demanding that your organization obtain MSF-certified instructors. I'll be one of them!
