Since I've Been Coughing Near You
Christmas is over! I received a variety of almost absurdly thoughtful gifts, from a framed version of my Performance Car Of The Year article to a non-Golden Disco Hoodie to a flawless Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab pressing of Appetite For Destruction. For such a terrible person, I sure know some wonderful people. Ben Werlin at MusicStoreLive.com hooked me up with a brilliant deal on a black soapbar PRS McCarty Korina Brazilian NOS. It has a gorgeous, thick clean sound. But remember that odd paisley PRS I picked up? Tonight was my first chance to play the MC-58 and it would be an understatement to say that I'm pleased with it. It does such a great job of nailing that 1959 Les Paul vibe while weighing significantly less and being easier to play.
If only my lungs and voice would cooperate. It's getting better, but oh so slowly. Maybe by this time next year I'll be able to reach for some notes again, before I'm too old to do it. I console myself that relatively few guys my age have my range, even with the pneumonia. Oh well.
This was fun to play, and even if my drummer didn't reward my decision to bail him out of jail on Christmas Eve (could my life be anything more like a blues song?) by showing up to play, we got it done without him. This was the year of Led Zeppelin. Who knows what next year will hold?
