Note: Here’s another old, old column of mine, before I knew the Baruth brothers…except via the then-viable TTAC, which I had enjoyed since about, oh, 2008.
I went into this not knowing much about the XTS. I started looking at the pictures more closely and just before Tom tells us in his article, I thought to myself, "Wait that's just a fancy Impala isn't it?" The family resemblance is still there even after all the sheetmetal tweaks. It's unavoidable, really.
How did you like your V50? There must be some common thread between Cadillac and Volvo. When I sold my S60 earlier this year it went to a guy who was replacing a wrecked DTS.
Only real common thread is McLaughlin is a Cadillac and Volvo dealership, ha ha. They're good folks and I trust them, so I buy from them.
The V50 was a nice car, I enjoyed it a lot. Oddly optioned one, it had moonroof and cloth seats with heated seats. Was a 2.4i, no turbo. Only got rid of it when the A/C started to conk out. Dad recharged it but it didn't really help much. And it had like 103k on the clock by then. Then the 2004 Town Car was traded in at Strieter and it was buh-bye!
"there will still be XTSs seen with fake convertible tops"
i thought i had blocked those from memory but some old people really did like gluing fabric to the roof. horrid.
I once saw a CT6 with one. Oof.
take a trip to Florida, you will see lots of those abominations.
gods waiting room holds many surprises
"We're moving straight into Del Boca Vista!!!"
the XTS wheelbase was too short; always at least to me looked odd/wrong. they should have used the longer wheelbase from the last few years Lacrosse.
and I've also said before, NO Cadillac should be on a FWD platform.

it was initially supposed to only be a fill-in large sedan until the CT6 was released. so in best GM form they did a fancy badge engineering job
Damn it Tom, now you’re making me want to look at an XTS to replace my MKZ Hybrid.
