Okay, NOW I'm The Guy Who Has Won In Three Different Enduro Series

I really thought that yesterday was our best shot at winning an AER race. But the stars aligned on Sunday and gave us both the win for the day and the overall win for the weekend.

Had the Duct Tape #902 car held together, I think we would have been hard-pressed to do any better than second. But that's endurance racing: you do your absolute best and you take advantage of every situation. We had four drivers who understood their roles and delivered without fail, we had a perfectly reliable car, we had no contact. Basically, the things that didn't quite work on Saturday worked on Sunday and as a result we found ourselves on the podium.
I have to say that I was particularly impressed by my co-drivers Travis Okulski and Josh Hughes. Travis was focused and disciplined both days. I gave him a lot of shit about the amount of practice he took on Friday. "With all that practice, you'd better be perfect," I snapped. Luckily, he was. Josh delivered a brilliant wet-weather drive to close on Sunday. Without his efforts, we could not have won. Obviously Randy Pobst did a great job. It's almost redundant to say that.
On a personal note, I think my race fitness on a mental and physical level was better on the second day. I got better sleep and I executed better on a lap-by-lap basis. Five times I was able to avoid a spin or track-crossing in front of me and when I tested to see if turn 7 was still too wet to drive the outside line, and it was, I didn't drop the car off-track as a result.
Unfortunately, my friend Sam Miller was hurt a bit when she hit the wall on the other side of Turn Five. Mostly a headache and a very sore neck. Sometimes this stuff can be more serious than it looks. I put her back on the plane today with assurances that she'd talk to a doctor when she got home. Her account of the race can be found on TTAC.
Now I have four days off before attempting to help set a Guinness World Record at VIR this upcoming weekend. More details on that soon. In the meantime, if you need me, I'll be asleep.
