Your author put about 300 miles on the MKZ attending the Grape Festival show in Nauvoo, IL. It’s a great show I’ve been attending consistently since 2006, excepting bad weather and Ovid-kay cancelations.
It’s always been a fun show, plus I get to meet up with my aunt and uncle, and other assorted family members.
That’s right. Multiple Klockaus. Be afraid.
Aunt Lori grew up in Burlington and her grandparents lived in Nauvoo, they inherited her grandparents’ house when she passed away, so they’re always up there for Labor Day weekend.
I’ve always consistently seen fantastic rolling stock. Here in the Midwest we have mmmaybe 4 weeks of shows left, a sad situation.
So this show is one I consider one of the last hurrahs before stupid, sucky winter.
And this year did not disappoint.
First off I saw a MAJESTIC ‘59 Sedan de Ville. What's the appropriate response? Hubba hubba! Awooga! *thud*
Then I went to check out the vendors and found the two Matchbox-sized ‘70s Schuco models pictures at the top of this column. A German Ford 10E and Mercedes 250. At ten bucks a pop I couldn’t resist!
It was a great show but had to head out a little early, as my father was taking everyone for a ride on the Chris-Craft.
Move over Swanson, I’m driving!
Til next time!
That's what happens when you're drinking beer and listening to live music while writing a column. 🤪
Boy, that IH truck is really something! Would love to have that on the farm.
