Malaysia Diary, Day Two: The Singapore F1 Course

So today I drove the world-famous Formula One course in Singapore, in a Peugeot RCZ Turbo,
"Wait a minute," you're saying, "the Singapore course is..."
"...a street course." That's right. I just drove around those streets. Not very quickly, either. But at least I've done it!
I spent a lot of the day eating American food (Subway and Burger King) while enjoying the vast array of Cars We Don't Get In The United States. If you watch ten cars go by in Singapore, seven or eight of them will be cars with no direct equivalent in the United States. And as you drive up to Kuala Lumpur, the percentage of native and ASEAN-unique cars until you're entirely surrounded by various iterations of the Proton Saga.
In many ways, this trip has been a constant reminder of how naive I am. That's a negative thing because I am probably going to pay too much for everything here and I'm sure there are all sorts of opportunities I will miss because I'm unable to see what's right in front of my face. But on the other hand it's a personal practice of mine to approach life with the so-called "beginner's mind". In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's, there are few.
Most of all I'm trying not to be homesick. Due to the fact that I started this trip by going to Sebring, I haven't seen my son in a week and it will be another week-plus before I do see him. I hear he's doing fine, so I'm not worried about him... it's more a case of being worried about myself. I keep telling myself that Ohio isn't exactly going anywhere. In the meantime, I'll keep driving around and looking at stuff...
