Just bought a used 2018 Toyota Camry XSE in pearl white with a black panoramic glass roof and RED leather seats. Never would've even considered the car if it had the same ol' boring black or dark grey interior, but the red seats really pop and are an absolute eye-catcher.
There are definitely nice cars out there. But I'll never buy another new car because I don't want a car that can be turned off remotely. Hacked remotely. Or which gathers data on me either to be sold, or for the government.
I just remembered I saw the new Prelude on HWY 1 a few months ago....because it was forgettable. It looks kinda so-so in person. The Charger is growing on me and looking better everytime I see it.
Yeah but wouldn’t you rather have the previous gen, minimal screens weighted a lot less and could be had with 6.4. Exterior styling is maybe more subjective, I like the look of the new ones well enough but they’re gong to need 68 Coke bottle fenders to really pop. You also have to deal with atrocious build
Stellantis has some great styled cars to work with that always has me tempted. Chargers, Challengers, Wranglers, Grand Cherokees. I think all of them nail the looks, especially that new Charger. I always do a double take when I see one.
I think they're close to success, just need to look in the mirror
hehe, the american cars and their stupid gimmicky electronics REALLY need to be gone. Those stupid dings and alerts like it's a video game is a horrible combination of annoying and embarrassing for me. Who comes up with this stuff??
I like the > 2011 Chargers just fine, but I'm just gonna armchair quarterback until the new Chargers are plentiful enough on the used market. Right now I've got to replace a .44 mag with something like a .38/.357 because I don't need a .44 mag and need to free up some capital.
Don’t know enough about handguns to really coment on those calibers. keep a “classic s&w 38 snubbie in drawer next to bed at home. Love the way revolvers can sit inert indefinitely.
I’m looking for a quality hammer coach gun for the same reasons, we’ll just wnat one.
In Africa it’s all 9mm.
For pure functional reliability I go Glock,
It’s like Toyota you know it’s just going to work ,but otherwise uninspiring In many ways. I’ve considered a 1911 cause love those, the mag limit dosent bother me but for everyday use it’s bulky and heavy, the 211 have come along and getting more reasonable but they’re still
Relatively heavy and complex. Hard to beats. Gock if it’s purely for overall fun reliability and function, although Freinds like beretta and cz.
One thing that’s common across the globe now is the AR. Platform. Even supplanting the the old ak47. In places you wouldn’t expect.
Back home in good I think an Ar is an American birthright, but that’s another subject.
I love my Lyriq. Mine is Emerald Green with the white interior. It's one of the few EVs that has a personality...it is uniquely Cadillac in styling, interior design, and ride.
I wonder when Cadillac will announce their retreat from going all EV.
I think the retreat will happen only when the EV supplier ecosystem becomes too expensive to support with low EV sales. I only see Tesla surviving in the US.
Tesla was the viable ev the. Bribem forces the manufacturers to make evs. That created consumer competition for tesla with doesn’t help Tesla and caused the others to blow 140 billion so far and loose money on each one they build.

I just watched a video on Turkmenistan, which is a North Korean style dictatorship east of Iran, and all the cars in the capital city have to be white. It’s so that they don’t clash with all of the white marble buildings the dictator built to honor himself.
I remember having an awkward conversation with a friend regarding my red S2000. He said something along the lines of: I love your S2000, but there's no way I would get anything red.
My response was something nice like: yeah, I know. Some people can't do colors.
I’d say they’re ok. Nice is in comparison to crap. It’s not as though it’s like the 50s-2k and you’re looking at something and thinking wow what have I got to do to get into that baby today or ever. Now it’s like if my old car goes and I have to buy new there’s something I can contemplate. And yeah price but that’s not getting fixed although interest rates will go down before the year is out so ona monthly basis maybe better .
This is the car show that is really just all the local dealer lots trucked to the convention center? They do this annually in Cincinnati and I admit I can’t be bothered to make the 30 minute drive and pay to park.
Some of the manufacturers truck the same actual vehicles from show to show, and pay college-age students to answer questions, what-have-you. (Honda/Acura), along with maybe having a salesperson or two from one or two local dealers.
Maybe in the bigger cities, they truck a few cars out of inventory and have all personnel sourced from the local dealers.
When I was a kid 30 years ago these were more exciting. Back then there were cars that car people waned to see. I remember the new NSX in particular. We went in 2018 because we were van shopping and figured it was easy to see them all in one place. Now it is a sea of various SUV's and trucks. Hopefully the next generation of automobile enthusiasts is out there wanting to go get in and feel a car, not just look at it on a screen.
"He knows I’m not an SUV guy and said that there were quite a few sedans on display, which intrigued me." Me too.
Great piece that I finally got around to reading!
I haven't attended a new car show since at least 2005 in Boston. I know this because I remember climbing up, way up, into a brand-new Excursion, Ford's Super Duty SUV that ended production the next year.
I also agree about colorful interiors but I prefer loud EXTERIORS too! Both on the same car might be overkill though. I said might!
There's an F30 M340i locally in this BMW Individual color called Fireorange III. Love it!
Honda prelude kind of looked interesting here. So I went to the Honda website for more details.
It's four cylinder hybrid only. Available in only five colors (black, grey, white, red, blue). Quite a disappointment; I can't see how it stirs enough emotion to get anyone to sign a five-year note for it.
This Prelude looks like they just took the (showroom poison) CR-Z and just doubled the price. Hardly the "sports car for adults" luxury & refinement that it had back in the 80's.
here's a magnificent vehicle to look for: '59 olds 98 station wagon. i love the way the taillight surround begins near the front of the car and goes aaaaaaall the way back to the lens!
Now just imagine all the effort put into those cassy evs with nice quality interior
Imagine if some of that same effort and budget had gone into building some real cars like a great sedan and even a sports suv.
The prelude must be one of those cars that looks way better in the flesh, in pictures it’s I don’t even know what, not meh not in your face just some incoherent portly executed styling cues, a bit of wedge here a bit of blob there.
Yes it’s a coupe but it’s also a euro compliance hybrid. All in all a “chick” car or sorta sporty accountant commuter.
Yes it’s got ctr suspension, now put the ctr drivetrain in it. If it has to be hybrid put a small electric motor on the rear axle so in hard charging when the fwd starts to wash out a bit of drive can be applied to the rear for neutrality if not oversteer.
Hoping that this is the intro model of the prelude. Although, I'm pretty sure we are NOT getting high performance variant...
I suppose if you wanted Honda performance, the CTR and ITS are decent options today, but a little pricey. So the Prelude is just the stylish 2 door version of the Prius I guess.
It DOES look a lot better in person. I drove two cars behind one...the first one I'd seen in the flesh...and I didn't recognize it as the Prelude I saw in the preview pics online. I actually moved lanes twice to get a closer look. The pics make it look like a reskinned Civic coupe. I like how it looks, but anyone paying over sticker for one is a fool.

I live vicariously through you
There are definitely nice cars out there. But I'll never buy another new car because I don't want a car that can be turned off remotely. Hacked remotely. Or which gathers data on me either to be sold, or for the government.
Plus 2D screens instead of 3D actual instruments
I just remembered I saw the new Prelude on HWY 1 a few months ago....because it was forgettable. It looks kinda so-so in person. The Charger is growing on me and looking better everytime I see it.
Prelude is meh. Especially for the price.
Charger is nice, but the proportions are off. Unlike the previous Challenger and Charger.
Fo sho. But not enough for me to hate it. Whenever it comes with a Hemi maybe it'll get smoothed out.
I agree. I’ll give them credit for making a big coupe and it will be even better with the Hemi.
Regarding the design, Adrian Clarke had a great review at the Autopian.
Maybe they’ll get it right in ver 2.0
Stellantis has some great styled cars to work with that always has me tempted. Chargers, Challengers, Wranglers, Grand Cherokees. I think all of them nail the looks, especially that new Charger. I always do a double take when I see one.
I think they're close to success, just need to look in the mirror
They always had a styling edge. But latterly their build while never the best is now pretty poor
Make a charger with some flares the6.4 and slightly less disco digitalis interior and I’m in.
Maybe 27 or28 then
Theygotta move faster
hehe, the american cars and their stupid gimmicky electronics REALLY need to be gone. Those stupid dings and alerts like it's a video game is a horrible combination of annoying and embarrassing for me. Who comes up with this stuff??
The euro cars are worse
It’s a function of regulation, committees and cheap pretending to be a “feature”
Plus clinics instead of actual product knowledge
I like the > 2011 Chargers just fine, but I'm just gonna armchair quarterback until the new Chargers are plentiful enough on the used market. Right now I've got to replace a .44 mag with something like a .38/.357 because I don't need a .44 mag and need to free up some capital.
Big difference between a 357 and a .38
But you can always shoot .38 ina 357.
Apples/oranges to me
Don’t know enough about handguns to really coment on those calibers. keep a “classic s&w 38 snubbie in drawer next to bed at home. Love the way revolvers can sit inert indefinitely.

Sig P226 or similar? Or a Browning Hi-Power?
Neat .
I've not been to a car show in coming on 30 years .
One glance at the Caddy's dashboard creates a hard NO .
Glad to see there are still Sedans on offer .
-Nate
That’s one of the better ones, and I detest screens in cars.
Ew .
Lucky me, live in the land of minimal rust, with some effort and a little luck I may never have to suffer having a TV set in my vehicle .
-Nate
And the hard no screen dash on the cts, same act 2 years ago had normal 3d instruments. What are they thinking
As far as I can tell, they're trying to follow the market, what sells .
Remember : most vehicle purchases are not made rationally .
-Nate
Yeah I do t think there is any consumer preference there
It’s just cheaper to do a screen than dials
Add to that Ada’s integration.
Also the desire to revamp products cheaply and try co Vince consumers it’s a feature
Now there is blowback
Praise for EV's and SUV's, hit the supper club before the show??
Actually someone plied me with shrimp and gin.
No wait, that's the folks Jack mocks lol.
I still want new V6 or V8 Electras and de Villes.
And as long as I'm dreaming, I want Oldsmobile and Pontiac back too.
I love my Lyriq. Mine is Emerald Green with the white interior. It's one of the few EVs that has a personality...it is uniquely Cadillac in styling, interior design, and ride.

Enough with the white cars already.
I just watched a video on Turkmenistan, which is a North Korean style dictatorship east of Iran, and all the cars in the capital city have to be white. It’s so that they don’t clash with all of the white marble buildings the dictator built to honor himself.
CARS of many colors on the Phoenix freeways in the 1980’s:
https://youtu.be/JDeiUFGRURw?si=Qtw-QYlwz714rhCD
I thought the same thing. The first pic looks like the appliance department at Home Depot.
Then order a red one. I told the show planners to do different colors but for some reason they COMPLETELY ignored me.
I don't mind white as long as there's a bold interior color like red blue or orange.
Start at the 00:50 mark. It’s wild. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1L5ALk23Tn0

My response was something nice like: yeah, I know. Some people can't do colors.
This is the world we live in today.
Or, “yeah get it in yellow!”
They don't get as hot in the sun.
They’re all nice until you look at the price.
I’d say they’re ok. Nice is in comparison to crap. It’s not as though it’s like the 50s-2k and you’re looking at something and thinking wow what have I got to do to get into that baby today or ever. Alas, that "American made Buick" is really a Chinese-assembled abomination.
Not the Enclave. All the others though, are Korean or Chinese made.
Correct, but as you initially called it an Envision...
Yeah they have too many models that start with E lol.
Yeah, you'd think theyd learn their lesson after Ford tried that in the mid 2000s, with the same letter no less!
Invasion.
This is the car show that is really just all the local dealer lots trucked to the convention center? They do this annually in Cincinnati and I admit I can’t be bothered to make the 30 minute drive and pay to park.
This is the Quad Cities. I parked for free, and 30 yards from the door.
Some of the manufacturers truck the same actual vehicles from show to show, and pay college-age students to answer questions, what-have-you. (Honda/Acura), along with maybe having a salesperson or two from one or two local dealers.

Seeing all of these screens on the dash, I sure miss old fashioned gauges...
I am a BMW survivor and complain about them incessantly but I will always miss their old gauges and controls.

First time I saw a picture of it, I thought it was a “performance” version of the new Prius.
It kinda is, but imo the new Prius looks great
Agreed. Now if they would only make the GR Prius.
Somehow, GR and Prius don’t go together. Non intersecting Venn diagram.
It would still sorta suck unless it had the new coming 400hp motor
