I'm Still In Love With John Mayer
Between 2pm yesterday and 9am today I drove about 900 miles to catch John Mayer's show at the Molson in Toronto. I had a really decent rental car --- a Charger SE with the Pentastar --- and the trip wasn't too bad. I'm still tired all the time from the pneumonia. I hate to keep whining about it but it's like having half your breath available.
Mayer totally killed it despite recent throat surgery. The crowd was sold-out and they knew what they wanted to hear --- stuff from "Room For Squares" and "Continuum". JM stretched out for about ten minutes on an A minor blues and was met with nearly total silence.
In the spirit of being the world's biggest 41-year-old male John Mayer fan, I decided to cover one of his songs tonight. All disclaimers apply: can't breathe, tired from the trip, not a musician. The guitar, if you care, is a Fender American Strat Deluxe in Olympic White, played through a MESA Maverick 2x12" combo in maple and wicker, no pedals. Thanks to my man D'Marco for drumming. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but this was the second take. The first time we tried it, I was even worse. So what. I still love playing John's stuff and yeah I paid $40 for the concert T-shirt, too.
