What a racist-ass auction! They want you to think that it's an auction for a vintage Gibson pickup cover, but it's actually a subliminal attempt to make you read dog-whistle racist books!

Oh, wait.

You'll laugh, but when I saw the auction I was shocked for a solid half-second before my non-dyslexic brain took over. Not that this would be the first time eBay has been used as a communications channel. For several years there existed a community of people who used eBay to satisfy their exhibitionist desires --- selling underwear by posing in it, doing "accidental" reflections of themselves nude, appearing in very little clothing in auctions for unwanted or overpriced auctions. I think that's mostly been shut down now, but it's a testament to the fact that human beings rarely follow the script when it comes to social interactions. Ask anyone who has attended an Everquest wedding or used car forums to advance their political arguments!
