As you know I am addicted to diecast cars, especially those from the Brougham Era.
Recently Greenlight has released several versions of the 1972-76 zaftig T-Bird. I’m still waiting for a Jade Luxury Group version, but am content with the excellent ones released so far.
One of them was a ‘73 in the Lowriders series, and despite my preference for factory stock versions, I still had to get one for it’s most excellent red on red color combo.
But it wasn’t long before I thought, hey, it would be pretty easy to make this look more stock.
Which resulted in removing aforementioned decals with a toothpick and mineral spirits. These were more resistant to come off than your author first thought, resulting in some creative cursing.
But ultimately it came out nice, and while I really didn’t mind the original wheels (they even had whitewalls!) they were pretty tiny.
Resulting in my drilling out the rivets and installing some spare 70s Cadillac wheels and whitewalls. Greenlight actually sells wheel packs for customizers, which is pretty cool.
After a little fiddling around with carefully tapping them onto the axles, the result was as you see here.
I’m pretty happy with it. And the other day I saw another one of these at Hobby Lobby. Thinking about going back and customizing that with white interior and yet another set of wheels!
I have some Greenlight Steve McQueen diecast models that feed my McQueen jones.
What a great thing to do with these cars. Seriously makes me want to shop until my bookcase is overrun!
